Haruhi Suzumiya

The cast of Haruhi Suzumiya seriesThe Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Sighs of Haruhi Suzumiya are two seasons of anime about a japanese highschool girl named Haruhi Suzumiya. Haruhi yearns to be special and stand out amongst the crowd.   On the first day of school, she declares that she’s not interested in normal humans and asks that any time travelers, espers, and aliens come see her so that they can hang out.

If you haven’t figured it out already, Haruhi is a weirdo.

Unbeknowst to her, Haruhi’s highschool already has time travelers, espers, and aliens.   And not only that, but she may be more special then all of them combined.

In fact, Haruhi may be God.

I hope everyone hasn’t left us after the long hiatus.   I made this episode nice and long to make up for it.   It’s full of enthusiasm, maybe too much.   I got rather excited talking about this topic and often times drowned out Melanie.   My bad.   There shouldn’t be any more long delays.   I have several episodes already recorded including a request for Howl’s Moving Castle, and a Ranma 1/2 episode.

  1. Wow, first you can’t update for some time, then I loose the internet for more than a month – at least where I can have a peace and quiet to listen. But this was definitely worth waiting for.

I think I’ll look into watching the anime, or finding the novels, I started on the manga at some point, but I didn’t make it past the third chapter. It really was no good.

Well, it’s almost midnight, and I’ve got work tomorrow stabbing fish. But I’ll be back.

    • Well the fish deserve it for being so gosh darn tasty! lol

Yeah, the manga’s no good for some reason. I flipped through it at the store and the art isn’t even pretty. I’d recommend the anime as the best ‘Haruhi’ incarnation. Since the novel’s are written in first person from Kyon’s perspective, it’s still fun to read his thoughts after watching the tv series. Also, some of the fun of the tv series is trying to figure out what Kyon’s thinking.

I just finished the third Haruhi novel and some of Kyon’s descriptions of Haruhi are pretty hilarious… not flattering to her but still very hilarious.

  2. YAAAAAY! You’re back! (I was afraid you were done forever.) Makes note – Must find time to listen to everything. You did Howl’s Moving Castle. Double YAAAAAY!

  3. So then 5 million years went by and nobody commented on this episode any further. But I just finished it and I loved it. I love how you guys really seem to be fans of the series and not just reviewers doing a job.

I’ll definitely be listening to more of your podcasts, as you cover a lot of IPs that I have a real interest in. But I want to say: don’t delay doing a podcast about “Disappearance!” Perhaps my favorite movie of all time, although I may still be too emotionally invested in this story that it’s skewing my opinion of the movie.

    Thanks for this podcast,

    • Oh wow, awesome a reply to one of our older episodes! You’re right, we really should do The Disapearnce of Haruhi. I’ve even own the blu ray and have read the novelization. Hmm… after Hercules season 2 we might just record an episode about that.

      • Wonderful! Thanks for replying. I am a new fan of this series, but totally obsessed. I’ll still be listening to this podcast around the time you do that, since I have a ton to catch up on!
Plus, I have lots of theories and debate points about the show on my mind I’d love to throw at you guys as well. 😉
I’m working on a “Kyon Is Not God (And Neither Is Haruhi)” essay-type-thing, trying to compile evidence and reasoning points. Gotta finish the novels, though, before I can really make it exhaustive.

Anyways, you got yourselves another listener.

        • Hmm that sounds interesting. I think the novels are more proof towards the ‘Kyon is God’ theory. He’s a very unreliable narrator though so it leaves things open to interrpretation. I love hearing all theories to do with this series, though. Send me a link when you’re done, okay? I’d love to read it.

Now that I think about it, the last novel that came out in english is sitting on my shelf unread still. I gotta reticfy that.
